Genesis 22:1-18
God commanded Abraham to sacrifice his son, who was his greatest gift from God Himself.
Abraham surely showed no sign of stopping to think or pondering what the Lord said. He didn't lie to any questions that were asked about his actions. As he was about to execute the final step of God's command, God Himself stopped him. God saw the power and will of Abraham to execute and obey His commands even against all other fleshly influence. God not only provided a replacement for the sacrifice instead of Abraham's son, but He provided Abraham a lineage who would be blessed until the day we meet God. We are this lineage of Abraham.
Abraham went outside of his circle of familiarity in order to follow God faithfully. We each have a circle of everything and everyone we've come to know. outside that circle is the things we aren't sure about. These things are a mix of the physical and mental things we haven't come to know or will never know. Many of us are scared to step outside of this circle; this circle is familiar. It is predictable. It is safe. It will also make you go insane if you stay within this circle. In order to follow God you must be willing to step out of this safe zone and follow closely behind God. This is often not easy. But with the help of God you will aquire way more than you ever did in that small circle. Be willing to step outside of what seems familiar and follow God to something better.
